Makei: Belarus seeks maximally close cooperation with IAEA

MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) – Belarus is in favor of maximizing close cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei said as he met with IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano during his visit to Vienna, Austria, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

“During the meeting with IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano the sides praised a high level of cooperation between Belarus and the IAEA, identified priorities for further cooperation. Special attention was paid to the use of the service package of the Agency for the states that start building nuclear power plants for the first time,” the press service said. Vladimir Makei stressed the openness of Belarus and interest in maximally close cooperation with the IAEA.

During the meeting to Vienna Vladimir Makei also met with Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Yong Lee. The parties hailed the level of partnership relations between Belarus and UNIDO, which is proved by the launch of the framework program for cooperation and its first two projects in the agricultural sector and the automotive industry in Belarus.

Vladimir Makei stressed the interest and priority of cooperation with UNIDO in the field of industrial modernization, the introduction of advanced technologies, and assistance in the development of middle-income countries. These issues, as well as other promising areas of cooperation between Belarus and UNIDO will be discussed during two international conferences that are due in Minsk in 2015.
