MOSCOW, 19 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have significantly strengthened the cooperation in the international arena over the last years, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said at the joint session of Belarus-Russia foreign ministries in Moscow on 19 November, BelTA has learnt.
Participants of the session will discuss the status of implementation of the program of concerted actions in foreign policy of the states-parties to the Union State Treaty for 2012-2013 and prepare a similar program for 2014-2015. “This will be the tenth program of the kind. This fact shows that the cooperation between Belarus and Russia is needed. The program is a kind of a roadmap for our cooperation in foreign relations,” the Minister said.
Vladimir Makei also said that next year the Foreign Ministries of Belarus and Russia are planning to hold a number of similar bilateral consultations. “In the context of the present-day international relations Belarusian and Russian diplomats need to coordinate the positions of the countries more than ever before,” said the Minister.
The session will also discuss the political support of the Eurasian integration.
According to the Minister, it is time to revise the international positioning of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space in order to change the attitude of the international community to the Eurasian integration.
Besides, Belarus-Russia cooperation in the protection of interests of citizens and legal bodies in Belarus, Russia, and other countries will be also high on the agenda of the session. Vladimir Makei expressed gratitude to the Russian side for the support to Belarusian citizens abroad. As an example, he mentioned the assistance of the Russian Federation in the evacuation of Belarusian citizens from Syria.
