MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – All initiatives put forward by Belarus are supported by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) , Belarus’ Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said following his meeting with OPCW Director-General Ahmet Uzumcu on 19 May, BelTA has learnt.
“We are happy that all the initiatives suggested by Belarus are upheld by the OPCW Member States and the Secretariat,” the Foreign Minister said. He noted that the meeting with the OPCW Director-General resulted in a number of concrete agreements.
Vladimir Makei expressed hope that during his visit to Belarus Ahmet Uzumcu will see that the country has made much progress in the field of chemical disarmament.
The Belarusian Foreign Minister hopes that the OPCW Director-General will find time to get to know Belarus better. The minister underlined that Belarus is happy to welcome Ahmet Uzumcu during the IIHF ice hockey world championship 2014.
Ahmet Uzumcu noted that a lot has changed since he visited Belarus for the first time some ten years ago. The OPCW Director-General emphasized that he appreciates Belarus’ contribution to the activities of the organization.
