Lukashenko: West and Russia should calm down for stabilization in Ukraine

Lukashenko: West and Russia should calm down for stabilization in Ukraine

KLIMOVICHI, 25 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko views the situation in Ukraine as serious, which should be stabilized. The Belarusian head of state made this statement as he spoke to the residents of Klimovichi on 25 April, BelTA has learnt.

“The situation is very serious, it should be stabilized. The West and Russia should both calm down and understand one thing: we are in great responsibility for this piece of land. A unique nation, our people, Slavs live there. We are responsible for this nation, their culture and development. One should not act in order to annihilate the state and the people,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The head of state stressed that the situation in Ukraine is critical. He noted that he had spoken to Alexander Turchinov the other day. “The Ukrainian authorities are very much concerned. And, of course, they are concerned about the external pressure. They say they would cope with the situation if not this pressure,” the President noted.

“May God give them the strength to survive the presidential election they schedule on 25 May. Although I doubt it will stabilize the situation there,” the Belarusian leader said.

“The situation is very difficult. People trust no one. They do not know whom to follow. The President has left the country. The people have been bled dry. Today there is a need for a person, a group of people who could tell people what they are going to do, which path they are going to choose. People do not trust anyone and they are right as they have been cheated and betrayed many times,” the head of state said.
