MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko believes it necessary to build up Belarus’ presence on the common market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). The head of state made this statement at the meeting of the Security Council on 17 June to discuss social and economic development issues, BelTA has learned.
“The treaty (the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty – BelTA’s note) sets out competition rules. We have set up the EEU institutions and mechanisms which help us take the right decisions and secure control over their fulfillment. Today we need to build up our presence on the common market, not stay idle and lament about the toughened competition,” the head of state said.
Speaking about the signed agreements on the Eurasian Economic Union, Alexander Lukashenko emphasized a number of advantages: “The main thing here is the clear terms on gas supply. In fact, we keep today’s prices which are acceptable for us. We have also agreed on oil: we get the amount we can refine, plus $1.5 billion of export duties which we used to transfer to the Russian budget. Now this sum will stay inside the country.”
