Lukashenko: Media should not impose one-dimensional world view

MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) – Mass media should not impose a one-dimensional view of the world, but should facilitate a full-fledged dialogue between people and authorities, be an indicator of moods in the society, prevent the penetration of destructive ideas, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said at the meeting with members of the Club of Editors-in-Chief of the CIS, Baltic States and Georgia, BelTA has learnt.

“We live in the information society, which means that today’s mass media are an integral part of our everyday life. Not only they inform us about everything going on in the country and in the world, but also educate us, introduce us to the culture and entertain us. In fact, they shape people’s vision of the world in many ways,” the head of state said.

Addressing the attendees, Alexander Lukashenko noted that he welcomes foreign journalists in Belarus. “Many journalists allege that I do it because I don’t know whether they have a friendly attitude or not. They say that Lukashenko uses such occasions to push his agenda. There is only one agenda. I want your readership to get an objective picture of what is going on in Belarus, objective information about Belarus’ socioeconomic and political developments. It is the only goal I pursue when I meet with domestic and foreign reporters,” the President said.

Alexander Lukashenko said that the Club of Editors-in-Chief of the CIS, Baltic States and Georgia gave a positive impetus for professional communication of mass media chiefs of the vast region. The President expressed hope that its importance as a communication ground on the post-Soviet space will only grow stronger.
