Lukashenko: Almost no publicity stunts in my work

Lukashenko: Almost no publicity stunts in my work

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko talked about his attitude to publicity stunts as he met with representatives of the country’s largest state-run mass media on 10 April, BelTA has learned.

“Actually, I am not a big supporter of PR campaigns. PR is overrated, close to a lie. It is always better to tell the truth, or say nothing at all. That is why I have almost none of it in my work,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The president added that he considers PR a normal thing. “It, however, should be real and sincere, less exaggeration and lies,” he said.

Alexander Lukashenko also talked about his attitude to irony and self-irony. In his words, it is acceptable in a small company. According to the president, he sometimes hears jokes about himself when he meets with his closest friends. “They sometimes tell such jokes. I can have a laugh as well. If we are talking about self-irony or irony in private, then, yes, it is possible,” he added.

The head of state said that during his first years of the presidency he paid the closest attention to any news about him in the media, especially if it was negative. “I was affected by any news about me. I always felt like I needed to provide explanations,” he said.

Over the years, Alexander Lukashenko learned how to take it calmly. “Self-irony is similar to excessive self-criticism. Although, I have not gotten rid of this trait completely. Telling something to someone, offending someone or firing someone is always a very difficult thing. That is why I am prone to self-criticism. Self-irony… Well, I have a life where there is little time for self-irony. I do not think it as self-irony. Otherwise, irony is normal, if it is sensible,” the president said.
