Liu Xuesong: Year 2013 may become record-breaking for Belarus-China trade

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – The year 2013 may become record-breaking in the trading relations between Belarus and China, Mr Liu Xuesong, Head of the Office for Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Embassy of China in Belarus told media on 18 January.

In January-November 2012 the trade exceeded the figures of the year 2011, reaching its record-high in the history of the bilateral relations. “This success was hard-fought, especially in the light of the world economic meltdown,” the Chinese official said.

According to the counselor, Belarus’ joint projects with China are quite successful in the sectors of telecommunications, energy, transport and construction. Among the most significant bilateral projects he named the Belarusian-Chinese Industrial Park, the construction of a cellulose factory in Gomel Oblast, the railway electrification project. Socially-important projects are the construction of the Lebyazhy residential area and the Peking Hotel in Minsk.

Speaking on the Industrial Park project in Belarus, Mr Liu Xuesong said that this will be a facility of open type. "We welcome the investment not only from the SES member states but also from all over the world. The Park will be, in fact, international,” said the diplomat. "This project will strengthen the partnership between Belarus and China and will lead to even greater rapprochement of the countries," he said. According to him, Belarus has created a solid legislative framework for the creation of the park. Design documents and general plan are currently in the work. According to Mr Liu Xuesong, Chinese banks have expressed willingness to take part in the financing of the project, which is estimated at $5 billion.

Mr Liu Xuesong stressed that Chinese companies are highly interested in investing in different projects in Belarus.

On 18 January Minsk hosted the Belarus-China seminar on industrial and sci-tech cooperation.
