MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – Belarus is not ready for introducing jury trial yet, Prosecutor General of Belarus Alexander Konyuk said at the House of Representatives on 4 November, BelTA has learned.
“Maybe, we are not ready for it yet. The state is not ready. Our people are not ready, either,” the Prosecutor General said.
Alexander Konyuk reminded that a dramatic court proceeding has recently taken place in one of western countries. It took a year to select the jury for the trial, which is totally absurd, Alexander Konyuk believes. He noted that sometimes jury trial is called the trial by the mob. Such a trial once acquitted an established female revolutionary who killed a person, Alexander Konyuk reminded.
