MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – Belarus will join the club of WTO member states, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Mr Viktor Khristenko said at the Belarusian Investment Forum on 16 November.
“We are now de jure and de facto playing by the global trade and economic rules. The negotiating process on Kazakhstan’s accession to the WTO is nearing completion. I am sure Belarus will be next to join the club,” Viktor Khristenko said.
Any regulation adopted by the EEC is examined for its compliance with WTO requirements, he added. When Russia joined the WTO, it virtually translated its regulations into regulations of the Customs Union. It means that the accession terms are implemented into regulations, tariffs, rules and procedures of the entire Customs Union.
Viktor Khristenko informed that at present the SES is ready for an intensive dialogue with potential new partners in various formats. This pertains to the expansion of agreements on free trade zones. “We have received 34 applications from various countries to hold talks on the establishment of free trade zones, including from New Zealand, Vietnam, members of the European Free Trade Association,” Viktor Khristenko said.
