MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) - Tajikistan is Belarus’ trustworthy partner in Central Asia, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Guryanov said at a solemn event timed to Tajikistan’s Independence Day on 5 September, BelTA has learnt.

On behalf of the Belarusian government and Foreign Ministry Alexander Guryanov wished Tajikistan Happy Independence Day. He noted that the main result of the independence of the country was the restoration of peace and stability.

Alexander Guryanov also pointed out that the open door policy has strengthened Tajikistan’s authority in the international arena. The indication of this fact was the High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation hosted by Dushanbe in August 2013.

Belarus and Tajikistan have similar positions on the pressing issues on the international agenda. Alexander Guryanov underlined that a sound high-level dialogue is underway between the two states. He stressed that Belarus will make all efforts to further develop traditionally friendly relations with Tajikistan.

For his part, Kozidavlat Koimdodov, Tajikistan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Belarus, noted that despite the negative consequences of the world economic crisis the country’s leadership is working to move the economy forward. In his words, the major goal is to gradually strengthen the country’s independence.

The Ambassador pointed out the importance of Tajikistan’s accession to the WTO in March 2013. Tajikistan underlines the positive role of the United Nations’ in addressing the pressing concerns of today. In the course of the last ten years the UN General Assembly has upheld four Tajikistan’s initiatives on water issues.

Kozidavlat Koimdodov also said that his country is studying the possibility of joining the Customs Union.

The diplomat also pointed out the solid legal framework of the Belarusian-Tajik relations. In his words, trade and economic and inter-parliamentary cooperation between the countries has intensified. There are also plans to set up a facility to assemble Belarusian tractors in Tajikistan.

The countries also enjoy educational and cultural ties, an agreement between the National Libraries of the two countries was signed not long ago. The Tajik Embassy in Belarus donated to the Belarusian National Library a number of books which reflect the timeline for Tajikistan’s foreign policy in the past years. The centerpiece was the book “Golden Treasury of the Tajik People” by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan.
