German diplomat: Belarus has great tourism potential

GRODNO, 28 February (BelTA) – Belarus has great tourism potential, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Wolfram Maas said as he met with Grodno Oblast Govenor Semyon Shapiro on 27 February.

The Ambassador is in Grodno on a reconnaissance visit. According to the diplomat, the Belarusian region and Germany have a good basis for expanding cooperation, a huge potential for developing mutual relations. A great number of German companies run business in Belarus, and they are happy with the results of their work in this country. Today’s major goal is not just build up trade turnover but set up new manufactures in Belarus to sell products outside the country. The most promising areas are agriculture and food industry, renewable energy sources.

The Ambassador believes that Belarus also possesses great tourism potential. Cycle touring, ecotourism and other types of tourism have recently become very popular in Germany. Here Belarus can be of great interest for European visitors. Great efforts are needed, however, to advance this product, the diplomat said.

Education is one of the areas where the two countries have reached great results, Mr Maas noted. While in Grodno, the diplomat is expected to make a tour of two regional schools which the embassy provides with support in learning German language. The Ambassador is also set to meet with students of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno.
