Expert: Belarus became a unique ground to shape global politics

MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) – Belarus has turned into a unique platform where the global politics is shaped, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Institute of Demography, Migration and Regional Development (Russia) Yuri Krupnov told the ONT TV channel on 27 August, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is a unique platform where the global politics is shaped. Such a platform is badly needed,” Yuri Krupnov said. He emphasized the special role of Minsk and Belarus’ strategic diplomacy in the negotiating process.

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belarus Ergali Bulegenov noted that Minsk was chosen as the venue for the talks for a reason. “Mr Lukashenko voiced this initiative and everyone upheld it, because Belarus maintains mutually beneficial and good neighborly relations with everyone,” the diplomat said.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Belarus Alexander Surikov noted that the Minsk meeting on 26 August testifies to the determination of the parties to discuss and resolve the conflict. “Their willingness to think about and discuss the resolution of the problem is a very positive sign for diplomacy,” he emphasized.

Director of the Center for Strategic and Foreign Policy Research Arseny Sivitsky believes that the talks launched in Minsk will be continued. “It is important that Minsk has established itself as a negotiating platform within the framework of the OSCE-Ukraine-Russia consultations, and a platform for the talks in various formats, including in the format of the Customs Union, Ukraine and the European Union. I think there are all grounds to expect the next rounds of talks,” he said.
