Ergaly Bolegenov: Belarus and Kazakhstan are ready to make transition to large commercial projects

GRODNO, 28 August (BelTA) – In the development of economic relations between Belarus and Kazakhstan focus should be shifted from trade to the implementation of major joint projects. The opinion was voiced by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus Ergaly Bolegenov at a press conference in Grodno on 28 August, BelTA has learned.

The Ambassador believes that the existing Belarus-Kazakhstan relations allow taking the bilateral relations up a notch and both sides are now working on it.

Raising the bilateral trade turnover is the idea in addition to more serious work to set up joint ventures, start making products for the regions where the products are not available now, said the Ambassador.

For instance, Grodno companies could have representative offices in the regions, from where their merchandise could be shipped to Asia, while Kazakh manufacturers could use Grodno and Brest for transshipment to Europe. These mutual interests will be discussed at the tenth session of the Belarusian-Kazakh commission for trade and economic cooperation in Grodno on 29 August.

At present there are 13 joint ventures in Kazakhstan that assemble various kinds of Belarusian machines. The two countries also plan to set up a Belarusian-Kazakh industrial cluster for agricultural and municipal vehicles in the city of Kokshetau.

The Ambassador believes that in addition to agribusiness Belarus and Kazakhstan have great prospects for cooperation in education, healthcare, and culture.

Ergaly Bolegenov also mentioned great opportunities for advancing cooperation within the framework of the Single Economic Space and the future Eurasian Economic Union. Intense work is in progress to prepare a draft relevant treaty on creating the union. The document is supposed to be ready by May 2014 in order to be adopted by 1 January 2015, said the Ambassador.
