GOMEL, 26 March (BelTA) – Economic cooperation between Belarus and Kazakhstan has vast potential, but the two countries should step up interregional ties, BelTA learnt from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus Ergali Bulegenov who is on a visit to Gomel Oblast on 26-27 March.
Ergali Bulegenov noted that thanks to friendly relations between the two heads of state, the strategic partnership of Belarus and Kazakhstan is gaining momentum. There are highest-level agreements to double the bilateral trade that is now nearing one billion dollars. “However, to fulfill this target, we need a more vigorous interregional cooperation. In particular, Gomel Oblast has agreements with many our regions. Nevertheless, our existing cooperation is insignificant compared to our capacities,” he noted.
The diplomat informed that the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan is set to visit Belarus in April 2013. The embassy is now busy preparing documents for the visit, including suggestions on expanding interregional cooperation. “I am here to meet with top executives of companies that can be of interest for Kazakhstan in terms of imports and joint ventures. Belarusian products are known for their great quality. This pertains to mechanical engineering, agriculture and light industry,” Ergali Bulegenov said.
During the visit to Gomel Oblast the Kazakhstan Ambassador will tour industrial companies of the region, including Gomselmash, Gomelagrokomplekt, Gomeldrev and Gomel Oil and Fat Factory.
Ergali Bulegenov is expected to meet with Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik to discuss cooperation prospects in economy.
