Driga: Bashmet’s festival is a fine example of public-private partnership in culture

MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) – The Yuri Bashmet International Festival is an excellent example of public-private partnership in culture, First Deputy Culture Minister of Belarus Irina Driga told a press conference ahead of the opening of the 9th edition of the forum on 29 September, BelTA has learned.

Irina Driga noted that the organization of the festival is financed from the budget and also funded by sponsors and philanthropists, which is vital for such a large-scale forum that annually gathers prominent cultural figures from around the world.

In her words, one of the main goals of the festival is to support young talents who get a chance to demonstrate their skills and get familiar with the work of famous musicians. Every year the program of the forum includes master classes. Besides, the festival gets the audience familiar with the products of Belarusian composers. This year the concert on 1 October will feature the world’s premiere: the audience will hear a piece for the symphony orchestra and organ Fog by young Belarusian composer Olga Podgaiskaya (conductor Andres Mustonen from Estonia, organ – Ksenia Pogorelaya from Belarus, soloists Massimo Mercelli (flute), Ricardo Crocilla (clarinet).

Gennady Brusnikov, Director of Japan Tobacco International S&D (the company is the main partner of the festival), noted that the partnership between JTI and Yuri Bashmet festival has an 8-year history. “World-class performers, an offbeat approach and openness for experiments, a combination of classics and new forms have made the festival one of the brightest and most anticipated cultural events. Promotion of culture and art in Belarus and many other countries is an integral part of JTI long-term programs on investment in the society,” he said.

Driga: Bashmet’s festival is a fine example of public-private partnership in cultureThe official opening ceremony of the 9th Yuri Bashmet International Festival took place at the Belarusian State Philharmonic Hall on 29 September.
