Cui Qiming: Belarus-China relations are at the level of strategic partnership

VITEBSK, 10 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian-Chinese relations are developing at the level of strategic partnership, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Cui Qiming said as he met with Vitebsk Vice Governors Oleg Matskevich and Vladimir Terentyev in Vitebsk on 10 April, BelTA has learnt.

“The relations between Belarus and China, enjoying a robust economic and political foundation, have been sustainable developing at the level of strategic partnership,” Cui Qiming said.

An important component of the bilateral relations is ties between regions as well as trade and economic relations. “We reached great success last year. According to the information of the Belarusian side, our joint trade turnover exceeded $3 billion. China ranks fifth among Belarusian partners and its main trading partner in Asia,” the diplomat noted. The Ambassador sees a huge potential in developing all-round relations, including the investment sector. China possesses wide opportunities and is ready to invest in promising projects. Both strong state companies and private business show interest in this cooperation.

Vitebsk Oblast Vice Governor Oleg Matskevich stressed for his part that Vitebsk Oblast is ready to offer a number of projects to Chinese investors, including the construction of a logistics center at Vitebsk Airport. He also took note of the projects which are being successfully implemented in the region with the participation of China. Among them is the construction of the Vitebsk hydroelectric power plant and a new unit at the Lukoml state district power station.

Vitebsk Oblast has become the first region Cui Qiming visited as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus. In his words, the oblast has been chosen not by chance. “It is the image of the region, its rich history and the wish to get familiar with the native land of world-renowned artist Marc Chagall. Besides, I have got a lot of good references and recommendations about Vitebsk Oblast from my colleagues and acquaintances, heard a lot about the festival of arts Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk,” the Ambassador stressed.

The diplomat is also set to visit Masherov Vitebsk State University and attend a modern concert of the Chinese-Belarusian youth, pay a visit to an orphanage and get familiar with the activity of the FEZ Vitebsk companies.
