Bolivia ready for strategic partnership with Belarus

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) - Bolivia is ready for strategic partnership with Belarus, Juan Ramon Quintana Taborga, Minister of Presidency of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, said on 22 November when meeting with Belarus’ Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, BelTA has learnt.

“President Evo Morales has asked me to confirm Bolivia’s readiness to enter into a strategic partnership with Belarus,” Juan Ramon Quintana Taborga underlined.

He noted that the Bolivian delegation includes Bolivia’s Ambassador to Russia along with representatives of such areas as industry, science and technologies, construction and agriculture. “This is not a big delegation but it is important in terms of fulfilling the agreements achieved by the Presidents of Belarus and Bolivia during the meeting in the Belarusian capital in September this year,” Juan Ramon Quintana Taborga stressed. He arrived in Minsk to take part in the first session of the joint Belarusian-Bolivian commission for trade and economic cooperation on 21-22 November.

During the session the sides discussed the state and prospects of the development of cooperation in industry, agriculture, construction, mining, R&D, education and other areas. The session of the joint commission has been organized in furtherance of the agreements achieved during the official visit of Bolivian President Evo Morales to Belarus in September 2013. Evo Morales suggested to Belarus that the country increase its presence in Latin America thanks to dynamic Belarusian-Bolivian cooperation.

Diplomatic relations between Belarus and Bolivia were established in April 1994. The countries have been constructively cooperating within international organizations. Bolivia is a co-author of the Belarusian resolution aimed at the improvement of effort coordination in the fight against human trafficking and makes part of the Belarus-initiated UN Group of Friends set up to combat human trafficking. The parties successfully cooperate in the issue of supporting candidates for the elective bodies of the UN.
