Berdimuhamedov: Turkmenistan, Belarus showed readiness for closer cooperation

ASHGABAT, 5 November (BelTA) – Turkmenistan and Belarus demonstrated their willingness and determination to promote close all-round cooperation, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has said after the talks in Ashgabat, BelTA has learnt.

“I am convinced that during the ongoing visit of the Belarusian head of state to Turkmenistan, the two countries once again demonstrated their commitment and determination to promote long-standing, close and all-round bilateral ties,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized.

According to Turkmenistan’s leader, during the constructive talks the sides confirmed their unfailing commitment to expand bilateral cooperation. They said the two countries are well-positioned to intensify an interstate dialogue in multiple fields. “We have once again confirmed our plans to promote peace and stability. Closer ties between the two nations will strengthen global security,” the President of Turkmenistan said.

He stated that both countries are ready to step up cooperation in the bilateral format and within the framework of international organizations, like the United Nations. He emphasized that Belarus and Turkmenistan uphold each other’s initiatives on the international arena. Besides, this recent meeting of the two heads of state will serve to deepen trade and economic relations. “The most promising cooperation avenues include trade, energy sector, construction, transport industry, communications, processing and chemical industry, agriculture and light industry. We have agreed to bolster cooperation in these fields,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

He emphasized that the humanitarian field is one of the priority cooperation avenues.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko noted that Belarus attaches great importance to closer ties with Turkmenistan. “Our cooperation can be described as a true strategic partnership; it is based on a long-term foundation and has a huge potential,” the Belarusian leader said. Alexander Lukashenko invited Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to pay an official visit to Belarus. “We already have a substantial plan of events in Belarus; we have discussed it with you. We will treat you as our dearest guest, our friend and brother,” the Belarusian head of state said.
