Shamko: Belarus’ strong performance in Sochi will give new impetus to sport in the country

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – The strong performance of the Belarusian Olympians in Sochi will give a new impetus to the development of physical training and sport in Belarus, Belarusian Minister of Sport and Tourism Alexander Shamko told media, BelTA learned.

"The results speak for themselves. The Sochi Olympics has become the most successful games in the history of sovereign Belarus. This is more than a decent result, which came due to the efforts of the athletes, coaches, and the state as a whole,” the minister stressed.

Alexander Shamko is sure that such a high result will give a new impetus to the development of physical training and sports in Belarus. "It is all about the attitude to sport. The success of our athletes will motivate the younger generation, and as a result we will have a healthier nation,” the minister said.

He also noted that he did not consider the results of the last Olympic Games as something surprising. “Our achievements are logical. In the future, we should set the bar higher. Then the result will come. Sports victories confirm the correct direction of the development of sport in Belarus,” he said.
