Belarus-Serbia smooth cooperation praised

MINSK, 1 December (BelTA) – There are no differences of opinion in any spheres of cooperation between Belarus and Serbia. The statement was made by Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei after meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Foreign Affairs of Serbia Ivica Dacic on 1 December, BelTA has learned.

“The visit is a logical continuation of the friendly, trusting, and constructive relations between our countries. It is timed to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Belarusian-Serbian diplomatic relations,” said the Belarusian Foreign Minister.

In his opinion, Belarusian-Serbian relations have been successfully advancing in the political, economic, and cultural spheres particularly in the last few years.

“Serbia has become a key partner of Belarus in the Balkan region,” said the official. “We are satisfied with the high level of relations with Serbia and appreciate its readiness for a dialogue about any matters”. Vladimir Makei said that during the visit they had managed to discuss all the matters of mutual interest and exchanged opinions about priorities of further cooperation. International problems were also discussed, Belarus and Serbia have traditionally supported each other in the international scene. Besides, the forthcoming sessions of the Belarusian-Serbian commission on trade and economic cooperation and the business council in February were also mentioned.

According to Vladimir Makei, Belarus and Serbia implement many economic projects. Yet he believes that the current level of trade and economic cooperation is insufficient, in particular, the mutual trade of $200 million is insufficient. During the visit of the Serbian Foreign Minister to Minsk further ways of bolstering trade and economic cooperation between the two countries were sketched out.
