The Premier congratulated President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences Anton Zeilinger, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Chau Van Minh and Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Siberian Office of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Aseyev on being elected foreign members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus among 20 candidates.

“You have been elected because you have done a lot for scientific development in your countries and have been actively working with Belarusian scientists,” the Belarusian head of government said addressing the scientists.

Mikhail Myasnikovich outlined the current state of affairs and cooperation prospects with each of the academies, which representatives are now members of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences. The Prime Minister underlined huge importance of cooperation between Belarusian and Russian scientists. In his words, Belarusian scientists have established close and fruitful contacts with the Siberia Office of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

“We have a lot of joint projects and all of them are highly promising. I would like to stress that they are innovative and promising in application. Among them are basic sciences and concrete technologies that are implemented in the production: in chemistry, physics and other areas. I think we need to take a closer look at the agriculture as well,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

The Belarusian Premier knew President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Chau Van Minh at the time when he was Vice President. “We have good projects. Now when you have a higher status, I think our scientific contacts and joint projects with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology will develop in a faster pace,” the Belarusian head of government stressed.

Addressing President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences Anton Zeilinger, Mikhail Myasnikovich pointed to smooth relations, joint projects and interesting contacts between Belarusian and Austrian scientists.

“We would be glad to see our relations develop further. Thanks to good contacts with the Austrian Academy of Sciences, we implement joint projects under the auspices of the EU,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. He added that Belarusian scientists use every chance to participate in separate tasks under projects that open for the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

“It would be great to have more such European projects where we could take part and seek solutions on both the bilateral and multilateral basis,” the PM said.

The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus elected new foreign members for the first time in the last 15 years. Academician Anton Zeilinger, President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, has made a considerable contribution to the development of quantum physics at the international level. Professor Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, has gained recognition for his works in chemistry. Academician Alexander Aseyev, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, chairman of the Siberian Office of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is globally renowned for his works in semiconductor systems.

At present there are ten foreign scientists among members of the National Academy of Sciences. Among them is Noble Prize holder Zhores Alferov, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Boris Paton.
