Belarus, Italy have great trade and economic potential

MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Italy have a great potential for developing trade and economic relations, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich said at the meeting with a delegation of Italy’s southern region Campania in Minsk on 12 November, BelTA has learnt.

“Our countries have a big untapped potential for developing trade and economic relations and implementation of joint projects. Belarus is a member state of the Customs Union jointly with Russia and Kazakhstan. Geographically the country makes a door for European countries to this huge market with great opportunities to find potential partners and clients,” Vladimir Ulakhovich said.

In his words, Belarus has been actively developing the logistics sector, which may serve as an additional impetus for the development of the Belarusian-Italian relations. Campania is of interest to Belarus with its developed agro-industrial sector, food production and seafood. “You have a well-developed metallurgical sector, shipbuilding industry. Cooperation is possible in these areas since Belarus is also an industrially developed state,” Vladimir Ulakhovich said.

Vladimir Ulakhovich believes that the industrial and innovation sectors of Belarus and Italy can make a platform for mutual development of the two economies. “Belarus has already made great headway in many areas. Together we can improve them and find new interesting ideas for joint work,” he stressed.

Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce of Salerno Antonio Ilardi noted that the current situation in Italy is absolutely opposite to that in Belarus. “You are on a constant evolvement. We, as many European countries, are currently in a recession. That is why it is important for us to develop and support SMEs of Italy, promote their advancement to the world market. Our country is interested in setting up joint companies and present our products on the markets of other countries,” the Italian representative said.
