Belarus calls for more attention to Great Patriotic War events

MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – Belarus is in favor of drawing more attention of the international community to events that happened during the Great Patriotic War 70 years ago. Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei made the statement as he opened the expanded participation session of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council on 9 October, BelTA has learned.

“We believe it is necessary to draw more attention of the international community to those tragic events and many millions of human lives that perished due to this dreadful war. It is also necessary to once again remind about the deed of the Soviet nation, who paid dearly in order to defend the right to freedom and independence together with the anti-Hitler coalition,” said Vladimir Makei.

He also underlined that as a country that suffered greatly due to actions of the Nazi during the war Belarus wholeheartedly approves of the idea of the CIS presidents’ address in view of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Belarusian Foreign Minister remarked that the victory in 1945 was a great contribution to the survival and development of the human civilization. Vladimir Makei pointed out that in addition to preserving old monuments Belarus erects new ones. The renewed museum of the Great Patriotic War is one of the latest examples.
