DAUGAVPILS, 17 May (BelTA) – Latvia makes it into the list of the European countries with which Belarus enjoys the most efficient economic ties, Boris Batura, Minsk Oblast Governor, head of the civil organization Twin Towns, said at the 2nd Latvian-Belarusian Forum of Twin Towns in Daugavpils on 17 May.
Boris Batura stressed that in 2012 Belarus-Latvia trade hit a record of almost $3.5 billion.
Belarus’ exports to Latvia include oil products, solvents, mineral fertilizers, tractors and haulage trucks, steel articles, copper alloys, timber, cargo railcars, agricultural produce. Belarus imports Latvian pharmaceutical drugs, fish, fabric and knitted goods, animal feed, biodiesel, products from ferrous metals.
The Minsk Oblast Governor also noted that Belarus has its commodity-distribution network in Latvia. It consists of the concerns Belneftekhim and Belgospishcheprom, the Minsk Tractor Works, Belwest footwear company and other well-known firms.
The 2nd Latvian-Belarusian Forum of Twin Towns discusses the status and prospects for developing twin town relations between the two countries. The agenda of the forum includes the issues related to trade, economic and investment cooperation, the role of the Latvia-Belarus Business Cooperation Council in promoting cooperation between self-administrations and business associations of the two countries.
