MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – Germany and Belarus can step up their economic cooperation. The statement was made by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Wolfram Maas at the press conference held to highlight elections to the German parliament, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat stressed that the geographical position, logistics, and workforce qualification allow considerably stepping up cooperation between Belarus and Germany.

He also noted that businessmen in search of partners for cooperation analyze operation terms in many countries. The image of a specific country in the eyes of the partner is important in this regard.

Speaking about economic relations between Belarus and Germany, the Ambassador pointed out that this year the bilateral trade turnover has shrunk a bit. The 7^th German Economy Day will be held in Minsk on 8 October by the German-Belarusian Economic Club and the Representation of the German Economy in Belarus. The event will focus on workforce training, concepts, experience, and prospects. Within the framework of the German Economy Day presentations will be held as well as discussions about concepts, the experience of vocational training and career enhancement. Cooperation between enterprises and education institutions will be used to present new promising approaches to handling actual tasks in this area.

Speaking about elections to the German parliament, the Ambassador said that whatever the new German government can be, approaches to Belarus will not change.

As a result of the parliamentary elections that took place on 22 September Angela Merkel kept her office of the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
