Alexander Radkov: It is necessary to learn to position ourselves as an independent state

MINSK, 27 March (BelTA) – It is necessary to learn to position ourselves as an independent and sovereign state. The opinion was voiced by First Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration, Chairman of the national public association Belaya Rus Mr Alexander Radkov at the science to practice seminar held by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to discuss the history of Belarusian statehood, BelTA has learned.

According to Alexander Radkov, sovereign Belarus is now 20 years old and the country is approaching a new level in its development. At this time it is important to avoid errors allowed by previous generations. It is important to take the best from the history and to learn to recognize ourselves and position ourselves as a sovereign state with rich traditions and its own views in the international scene. "The activists of our organization are closer to citizens than anyone else and it is the activists of Belaya Rus who should understand and recognize prospects of developing the state self-government of the Republic of Belarus, the mentality of the Belarusians. It is they who should teach young Belarusians to respect our history, our roots, what we hold sacred and our national peculiarities," he said.

“In order to successfully work with wide strata of the Belarusian society it is necessary to use historic knowledge. Information should be more actively used to advertise achievements of the Belarusian nation in the area of language, culture, spiritual traditions and values,” stressed Professor Alexander Kovalenya, Academic Secretary of the Liberal Arts Department of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of History. It will contribute not only to the broadcasting of the historic experience and the consistent enhancement of the historical conscience of Belarusian people. It will demonstrate the richness of the historical and cultural legacy of the Belarusians before the world. “Wise men say that the attitude to history is a convincing indicator of the civilization degree of a society, its spiritual and moral richness,” he believes.

The event was organized by the national public association Belaya Rus, the Liberal Arts Department of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and the History Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
