Year of Culture in Belarus to offer exciting premieres

MINSK, 13 January (BelTA) – The Year of Culture in Belarus will feature many exciting premieres and celebrations, Belarus’ Deputy Culture Minister Vasily Chernik said at a press conference on 13 January, BelTA has learned.

“For example, our theaters will premiere some productions in 2016. All this will be included in the plan of events that will be published as soon as it is adopted. I should point out that all our government bodies and involved in events connected with the Year of Culture in Belarus. Besides, I would like to mention another event. On 5 February Molodechno will host a large concert to officially take on the title of Belarus’ Capital of Culture,” Vasily Chernik said.

The Belarusian event calendar for 2016 features many landmark anniversaries. For example, in January the country will mark the 95th birthday of Ivan Shamyakin, in March – the 120th anniversary of the birth of Kondrat Krapiva, and the 125th birthday of Maxim Bogdanovich in December. Besides, it will be gearing up for the celebration of the birthdays of Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas in 2017.

The Slavonic Bazaar festival will celebrate its 25th birthday in July 2016.

“If each of us becomes a bit more culturally literate, this will mean that the Year of Culture has not been in vain,” Vasily Chernik believes.
