Vitebsk school students triumph in online English language competition in Russia

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – Vitebsk topped the list of cities with the best results in the online English language Olympiad Skyeng Super Cup Winter 2018 in Russia, BelTA learned from the organizers.

Minsk and Mozyr also were among the top 10 cities with the highest average score. With 74.8 points, Vitebsk is followed by Novokuznetsk (73.3 points), Minsk (73.2), Belgorod (72.2), Novokuibyshevsk (70.6), Oryol (70.6), Odintsovo (70.5), Mozyr (70.4), Klin (69.8), and Tyumen (69.6).

All in all, the 2018 Olympiad brought together around 130,000 school students from 2,550 cities and populated centers. Belarus was represented by around a thousand school students: over 300 from Minsk and Minsk Oblast, more than 400 from Vitebsk Oblast, and over 250 from Gomel Oblast.

Only 0.08% of the participants scored 100 points and only 6% got more than 90 points out of the 100 points possible. Slightly more than 33% of the students had more than 70 points. This year’s edition of the online Olympiad Skyeng Super Cup Winter 2018 saw 7th-grade and 11th-grade students show the best command of English, with the results among the 9th and 10th graders being a bit worse. The 9th-grade students scored an average of 56 points, 10th graders had 57 points. The most difficult competition was the grammar contest.

Those 5th to 8th graders with a golden medal will be invited to Skyeng Camp to learn English. Senior school students will have an opportunity to travel abroad with the help of Skyeng Travel. Moreover, around 105 medal winners and the most active teachers of the Olympiad will receive expensive gadgets, certificates from the international programming school Algoritmika, books, and guides.
