Organ music festival in Polotsk to gather musicians from six countries

VITEBSK, 14 October (BelTA) – The 20th international festival of organ music “Bells of St. Sophia Cathedral” will gather musicians from Belarus, Russia, Austria, Italy, Germany, and Denmark in the Belarusian city of Polotsk, BelTA learned from the Polotsk District Executive Committee.

The forum will open on 18 October and run till 22 November. Well-known musicians and talented young performers will play pieces by composers of the Baroque period, French and German Romanticism, and modern composers. The organists will perform solo and in duet with violin, trumpet, flute, signers and a chamber choir.

The program of the festival includes performances by Hans Christian Hein (Denmark), Pierre Zevort (France), Eugenio Maria Fagiani (Italy), and others. The opening ceremony will be held on 1 November.

The first edition of the festival of organ music “Bells of St. Sophia Cathedral” opened in Polotsk on 15 November 1996. Over the twenty years of its history, the festival has witnessed performances by musicians from 22 countries.
