Head coach of Belarusian ice hockey team quits

MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – Head coach of the Belarusian ice hockey team Glen Hanlon has finished his contract, BelTA has learned.

According to Glen Hanlon, he spent an excellent year in Belarus as part of the preparation for the ice hockey world championship in Minsk. During the championship the Belarusian team did their best and became one of the world’s top eight teams. However, Glen Hanlon has decided to go back to Canada and spend more time with his family. He has no plans to resume coaching in Belarus at least in the near future.

In 2005 Glen Hanlon became a coach of the Belarusian team in 2005. Under his supervision the Belarusian team managed to reach quarterfinals of ice hockey world championships three times — in 2006, 2009, and 2014. Those are the team’s best results on record since Belarus started taking part in world championships.

The decision on who will be the head coach of the Belarusian team will have yet to be made after results of the current season are summed up.
