Distinguished Belarusians receive state awards

MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas presented state awards to more than 100 representatives of different economic sectors on 19 December, BelTA has learned.

State awards were given to representatives of the industrial sector, agriculture, healthcare, and also teachers, scientists, and coaches. The president’s letters of commendation were bestowed upon Tatiana Korenkova, an engineer of the network administration and communications center of BelTA News Agency, for her many years of fruitful work and significant personal contribution to the development and maintenance of Internet resources of the government bodies. BelTA Deputy Director General, Editor-in-Chief of the Sem Dnei (7 Days) newspaper Natalya Filippovskaya was commended for many-year fruitful work, significant personal contribution to the development of Belarusian journalism.

State awards were presented to the best representatives of the country’s labor collectives on the instruction of the Belarusian president. Each of the recipients made significant contribution to the development of independent Belarus, Sergei Rumas said.

“The year 2018 was not an easy one. We will take stock of it early in 2019. We, however, managed to achieve certain results by joint efforts. Among them are a balanced foreign trade and an improved balance of payments. Inflation is running within the planned forecasts, and we expect it at its record low by the end of the year. The consumer market is stable,” the head of government said.

Special attention has traditionally been paid to the development of the agro-industrial complex, and the awards were presented to many representatives of this industry. “High quality of products, the use of natural products and raw materials enable producers to hold leading positions on the global market. According to the government forecasts, agricultural exports in 2018 will exceed the level of 2017. The sector is expected to grow by another 7% in 2019,” said Sergei Rumas

Among the awardees were road workers. Thanks to their efforts the highways in the country are being actively upgraded. The high awards were presented to representatives of the industrial complex who make a significant contribution to the development of the real economy sector.

Among the awardees, the prime minister singled out Vitaly Titov, a student of Minsk State Professional Automotive Industry Lyceum No. 9 and Yelena Bursova, a manager of Belarusbank office in Mogilev. “People call such people as Vitaly ‘the hero of our time’. Risking his life, he saved a drowning boy in the Svisloch River on 28 October last year. That was an act of man and of the citizen. Yelena Bursova helped to apprehend an armed criminal thanks to her professional actions,” Sergei Rumas said.

The prime minister addressed the words of gratitude to scientists, professors and teachers, who also received the awards. Medical workers were also on the list of the award recipients. “We often expect wonders from doctors. And they happen because you do everything possible in your profession, sometimes impossible. We thank you for this,” the head of government noted. Representatives of the creative community were also honored.

The commendation letters from the president were awarded to coaches and teachers for the long-term and fruitful work to develop and popularize physical culture and sports.

“We hope that thanks to your efforts, our athletes will perform well at the 2nd European Games, which Minsk will host next year. As the organizers we will make every effort to make sure the event is organized at the highest level,” Sergei Rumas said. He drew attention to the fact that the European Games will take place one year before the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo and will be qualifiers in many sports for Tokyo.
