MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) – Alina Talay of Belarus finished third in the 100m Hurdles at the Meeting Citta di Padova in Italy, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian clocked 13.02 seconds to claim bronze. Queen Harrison of the United States won the event in 12.84 seconds. Her compatriot Dawn Harper-Nelson finished second (12.86 seconds).
Alina Talay was upset with her result. In order to reach the final of the world forum an athlete needs to cover the distance in less than 13 seconds. Kendra Harrison, one of the favorites of the forthcoming IAAF World Championships in London in August, clocked 12.28 seconds in Hungary on 4 July, which is the world’s best result of the season.
“I had the final competitions in Italy before the world championships in London. Unfortunately, I was slow, clocked 13.02 seconds. I guess something went wrong in my training and I still cannot demonstrate my best. I am not going to give up and will be fighting to a finish in London,” said Alina Talay.
The women’s 100m Hurdles at the 2017 IAAF World Championships are scheduled for 11 August (qualifying and semifinal) and 12 August (finals).
