Belarus’ CEC votes in favor of registering newly elected MPs

MINSK, 16 September (BelTA) – During the session on 16 September the Central Election Commission of Belarus voted in favor of registering the newly elected members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Members of the Commission passed the relevant resolution to register the MPs, who were elected by Belarus citizens in 110 constituencies on 11 September.

The session also summed up results of elections to the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament. Secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Nikolai Lozovik noted that elections to the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly had gone in full compliance with the election laws. The senators were voted for in one day, on 13 September, while preparations for the event were done within the time limit determined by the Electoral Code. In compliance with the law more than half of the total number of members of municipal councils of deputies and the Minsk City Council of Deputies took part in the sessions of the councils to elect the new senators.

Thus, on 13 September every oblast and the city of Minsk each elected eight members of the Council of the Republic, with the total number of senators at 56. The Central Election Commission also passed the relevant resolution to register the elected members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus.
