Humanitarian project of the Labor and Social Security Ministry of the Republic of Belarus

Project name: The Light of Hope is Green

Implementation period: 2021

Applicant: Labor and Social Security Ministry of the Republic of Belarus

Project goal: Improving the quality of life of people with disabilities, elderly with limited mobility by providing them with special vehicles for transportation needs

Project objectives:

1. To assist social rehabilitation of people with disabilities, elderly people with limited mobility, to help them lead an active lifestyle, to create the atmosphere of equal opportunities
2. To get public and media attention to the needs of people with disabilities

Target group: Disabled people of groups I, II, children with disabilities, elderly people over 70

Brief description of project activities:

1. To purchase special vehicles designed to transport people with disabilities, elderly people with limited mobility (hereinafter referred to as service vehicles) - 10 specially equipped minibuses, each
for 8 seats (5 places for people with disabilities, elderly people with limited mobility, including wheelchair users; 2 places - for accompanying people, 1 place - for the driver) for the territorial social services centers (hereinafter - the Centers), the national sanatorium Yaselda.
2. The Labor and Social Security Ministry of the Republic of Belarus distributes special vehicles among the centers.
3. The centers provide free transportation and escort of people with disabilities, elderly people with limited mobility living in rural areas, and small towns to social, medical, educational, and cultural institutions and for participation in sports, recreational, sightseeing, and leisure activities

Post-project activities

By using special vehicles for the needs of the target group, the social services centers will thus help people with disabilities, elderly people with limited mobility living in small towns, and in rural areas lead an active lifestyle, promote their social rehabilitation, and improve the quality of life.

Elements of the barrier-free transport environment created in ten regions of the country for low-mobility citizens will help raise awareness of the general public about the needs of people with disabilities.
