Humanitarian project in Ushachi District

Project name: Renovating the Turospolye recreational summer camp of the Education Department of the Ushachi District Executive Committee

Implementation period:  2019-2020

Applicant: Education Department of the Ushachi District Executive Committee, Vitebsk Oblast, Belarus

Project objective: Improve the quality of recreational services for children in Ushachi District, Vitebsk Oblast, Belarus.

Brief description of the activities: 130-145 students from Ushachi District and nearby areas visit the Turospolye recreational summer camp every year.

More than half of them are children from foster families, some 5 to 10 children are in a socially dangerous situation, and 2 to 3 children on the watch-list of juvenile affairs inspectorates.

The camp plays an increasingly socially important role as there are no other camps in the area. An eco-biological team of high school students operates in the camp every summer.  The camp lacks an administrative and healthcare center. At present the camp has only one room (10m2) for first aid and one personnel’s room (12m2) for 10-15 staff.

The camp also needs a football pitch as physical development is key to growing healthy children. At present the nearby school area which is not equipped for such purposes is used for these goals.

Every year, funds are allocated from the local budget to get the camp ready for the summer season. A number of renovations has been recently implemented in the camp. The funds, however, are not enough to build an administrative and healthcare center and a football pitch.

Target group: Education Department of the Ushachi District Executive Committee, the economic group of the Education Department of the Ushachi District Executive Committee, Ushachi District Center for Children and the Youth

Brief description of the project:

January-February 2019: to set up an organizing committee for the project;

March-July 2019:  to develop necessary financial documents; call a tender for construction works; sign contracts with building companies;

August-September 2019, April-May 2020: to build an administrative and healthcare center and a football pitch; assist building companies

May-June 2020: provide help with cleaning and landscaping
