MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) – Fourteen applications have been submitted to register initiative groups that will nominate their candidates at the forthcoming presidential election in Belarus, BelTA learned from the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus.
Prospective candidates should submit documents needed to register their initiative groups to the CEC by 15 May. Members of these initiative groups will collect support signatures from 21 May to 19 June. The nomination of candidates will begin on 20 June and end on 4 July. The registration of candidates shall take place on 5-14 July. Early voting will be held on 4-8 August. Election day is on 9 August.
Incumbent President Aleksandr Lukashenko is among those who submitted an application to register an initiative group. His initiative group is led by Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Mikhail Orda.
