Election campaign in Belarus ‘running smooth’

MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – The election campaign in Belarus is running smooth, State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota told media in Minsk on 20 September.

“I believe that all necessary conditions for the parliamentary elections have been provided in the country,” Grigory Rapota said. He has stressed that he does not judge the situation in Belarus by official media publications only. “I read so-called opposition publications in the Internet, too. As an observer I do not see any serious problems. Everything is calm and well-balanced,” he said.

Grigory Rapota emphasized that stability in the society should be valued. “It does not mean there should be a standstill, that the community should not develop as a civil society.” The State Secretary of the Union State added that at the same time the society does not need cataclysms which deteriorate the situation of workers. A society needs sustainable and evolutionary development.

Head of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Leonid Kozik echoed Grigory Rapota’s opinion on a smooth election campaign in the country. He added that trade unions took an active part in the campaign at the stage of nomination. The Federation of Trade Unions has also deployed its observers to monitor the election process.
