Belarus holds key parliamentary vote

MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – Belarus is holding the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the fifth convocation on 23 September, BelTA has learnt.

All polling stations will stay open from 8h00 to 20h00. 6,344 polling places have been set up in Belarus, including 268 in sanatoriums, health centers and hospitals and 39 at military units. 43 polling stations have been opened in 32 countries.

The voters’ list includes 7,078,809 people. An average number of voters per constituency make up 64,597.

The House is elected for four years on the basis of a two-round, majoritarian system in 110 single mandate constituencies. The law establishes a 50 per cent turnout requirement to validate the elections. A candidate wins if he/she gets more than 50 pre cent of the votes in his/her constituency.

A total of 293 candidates are standing for the election in Belarus.
