MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych has arrived in Minsk to take part in the summits, BelTA has learnt.
Viktor Yanukovych was invited to attend the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on the level of the heads of state that will take place on 24 October. He will also take part in the session of the CIS Council of Heads of State on 25 October.
The political dialogue between Belarus and Ukraine has been on the rise. In June 2013 Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko came to Ukraine on an official visit during which the parties exchanged ratification instruments for the Belarus-Ukraine state border agreement. In October 2013 the Ukrainian Premier paid an official visit to Minsk.
In 2012 the trade between Belarus and Ukraine expanded by 27.2% over 2011 and reached $7.9 billion. Belarus’ export was estimated at $5.6 billion (up by 33.8%). Belarus had a trade surplus of $3.3 billion.
In recent years the two countries have implemented large-scale bilateral projects in energy sector and manufacturing cooperation.
