Union State Council of Ministers to meet in Minsk 21 October

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – The Union State Council of Ministers is expected to meet in Minsk on 21 October, State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota said as he met with Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich on 26 September, BelTA has learned.

The agenda of the meeting will include about 30 issues. A part of them have been almost prepared. “An additional look is needed to some three to four issues,” Grigory Rapota said.

Belarusian Premier Mikhail Myasnikovich stated: “We reiterate our full readiness (for the event – BelTA’s note).” In his words, “everything goes according to the schedule.”

According to the State Secretary, the matters for discussion will cover all areas of activity in the Union State, including the results of the social and economic development program, the approval of balances (including the energy one). The meeting will also highlight the property issue. Participants are expected to approve a draft new program on the use of information technology in the work with hydrocarbon resources. Apart from that the Union State Council of Ministers will touch upon military issues related to the operation of the regional troops. One of the top issues on the agenda of the forthcoming meeting is the approval of the budget, which will be later considered by the Union State presidents.

Among the most complicated issues Grigory Rapota singled out the coordination of industrial policies and the development of the single energy and transport space. “A lot has already been done and we still need to do a lot more,” he said. The State Secretary also added that “the flax issue is difficult as well.” “It is a promising area and we have been assessing the role of the Union State in this sector. There are resources we can use to get an innovative product. This is most likely to be new flax processing equipment,” Grigory Rapota said.
