MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) – UK Minister of State for Trade Policy George Hollingbery plans to visit Belarus in June, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Belarus Fionna Gibb said during a meeting with Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich, BelTA has learned.
George Hollingbery plans to take part in the first round of the intergovernmental trade dialogue. According to the Ambassador, the minister intends “to launch negotiations on trade and attend the European Games opening ceremony”.
The parties also reviewed the prospects of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, political dialogue. The parties welcomed good ties between the foreign ministries of the two countries, progress in the inter-parliamentary contacts. In May 2018 Belarus hosted a delegation of UK parliamentarians. A few days ago, the delegation head, the leader of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Belarus John Whittingdale noted the openness of Belarus to interact with other states, intensification of bilateral cooperation during the debate in the UK Parliament.
The agreement to establish an intergovernmental trade dialogue was achieved in March 2018 during an official visit of Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei to the UK. Trade dialogue aims to promote mutual trade and investment between the countries.
