MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – MPs from Turkmenistan would like to study Belarus’ human rights laws. The matter was discussed at the meeting with a Turkmenistan parliamentary delegation led by deputy chair of the social policy committee Joragul Khalbayeva. The meeting took place at the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Chairman of the Permanent Commission for Human Rights, Ethnic Relations and Mass Media of the House of Representatives Andrei Naumovich thanked the delegation of Turkmenistan for the interest in the work of the commission. He told his Turkmenistan counterparts about the principles of work and responsibilities of the commission. “We always take into consideration law implementation practices, the practices of government agencies and NGOs, we travel to regions, meet with labor collectives, voters and consider all suggestions we receive,” Andrei Naumovich said. He informed that this year Belarusian MPs will study draft laws on appeals of individuals and legal entities, on citizenship, on protection of children from accessing harmful content.

The Turkmenistan delegation was also curious how Belarusian MPs interact with mass media and NGOs, how draft laws are reconciled with all the interested parties and whether the Permanent Commission for Human Rights, Ethnic Relations and Mass Media of the House of Representatives takes part in the development of national human rights reports.

The Turkmenistan MPs, in turn, told their Belarusian counterparts about the structure of the Turkmenistan parliament, its work to process people’s appeals and to improve children’s knowledge of law.

“We have come here to study best practices of Belarusian MPs. We hope that this cooperation will be continued. We are interested in studying Belarus’ practices in the legislative field and might use them in our country. We would be glad if a Belarusian parliamentary delegation paid a return visit to Turkmenistan,” Joragul Khalbayeva noted.
