MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – Leaders of the Belarusian parliament intend to take part in conferences of parliamentary speakers in Warsaw and Seoul, BelTA learned from Valery Voronetsky, Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. The information was released during a seminar held on 30 March to discuss topical aspects of Belarus’ international activity and interparliamentary cooperation.

According to the source, work is in progress to allow the heads of both chambers of the Belarusian parliament to participate in conferences of speakers of the parliaments of Central and Eastern Europe countries in Warsaw, Poland in May and speakers of the parliaments of Eurasian countries in Seoul, South Korea in July.

A session of the CEI Interparliamentary Committee and a CEI session are scheduled to take place in Minsk in May and November respectively.

“We have made good headway in the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN IPA aka AIPA). These organizations can be effectively used to promote Belarus’ interests in these regions, including within the framework of our membership in the Eurasian Economic Union,” said Valery Voronetsky. In his words, Belarus also intends to acquire an observer status in the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference. Close attention will be paid to working within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

Valery Voronetsky said he believes it is necessary to continue the practice of inviting representatives of the parliament to attend sessions of intergovernmental commissions, committees and councils, which have been established as part of the Belarusian government’s agreements with foreign governments. The MP asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the parliament about forthcoming sessions of intergovernmental commissions in a timely manner and invite MPs to attend them.
