Sudan president arrives in Belarus on official visit

MINSK, 10 December (BelTA) - Sudan President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir arrived in Belarus on an official visit on 9 December, BelTA has learned.

The private talks with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and also a working session will take place at the Palace of Independence on 10 December. The heads of state will take stock of the progress made in the implementation of the agreements reached during the visit of the Belarusian leader to Khartoum in January 2017, and also the subsequent Belarusian-Sudanese contacts at other levels. The focus will be on the most promising areas for further development of trade and economic cooperation, including industrial cooperation, agriculture, energy, mining, and humanitarian activities.

The talks will also raise issues of political interaction between Belarus and Sudan. The presidents will discuss international issues.

Alexander Lukashenko and Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir are expected to adopt a joint statement after the talks. A number of international documents on cooperation in various areas will be signed in the presence of the two leaders.

The program of the official visit of the Sudanese leader will also include other events. He will take part in the official opening ceremony of the Embassy of Sudan, meet with the country’s high officials.

Since 2017, Belarus and Sudan have been implementing several joint projects in the areas of mining, industrial cooperation, energy, agriculture, supply of agricultural, road-building and cargo equipment and machinery, Belarusian furniture. The parties are considering possibilities for Belarusian organizations to take part in construction projects of Sudan. Work is underway to promote educational services.
