Sidorsky, Dankvert discuss ways to regulate conflict with food supplies from Belarus

MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) - Sergei Sidorsky, member of the Board (Minister) for Industry and Agribusiness of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), met with Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) Sergei Dankvert to discuss the ways to regulate the conflict with food supplies from Belarus, BelTA learnt from the EEC Department of Communicative Technologies.

“The parties talked over Rosselkhoznadzor’s possible introduction of temporary restrictions on food supplies for some Belarusian companies as well as the transit of agricultural goods through Belarus to Russia and Kazakhstan. The participants of the meeting also considered the potential impact from the restrictive measures for the economies of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space,” specialists of the department said.

During the talks the parties stressed that the adoption of restrictions does not meet the aims of the Customs Union. At the same time the sides agreed that the interstate ministerial group set up in October 2014 to prevent re-exports of sanctioned products to Russia through Belarus does not fulfill its tasks in full.

Sergei Sidorsky emphasized the importance of conducting a joint study of test samples in order to enhance mutual trust to the national systems of monitoring the security of the production and the turnover of agricultural products. The minister also called upon the Belarusian and Russian sides to act in cooperation with Kazakhstan and the Eurasian Economic Commission within the interstate ministerial working group in order to elaborate a reliable mechanism of cooperation in monitoring the movement of goods and timely response to any violation of the established rules.

“The member of the board suggested that restrictions on the transit of goods banned for the import to Russia were not introduced. He offers to maximally use the opportunities of the joint control on the external borders of the Customs Union. He also advised against using restrictive measures in respect to Belarusian companies until the audit of the Belarusian authorized body is over,” the EEC said.

Partaking in the meeting was Counselor of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia Sergei Silkov.
