Russian government delegation to visit MILEX defense expo in Minsk

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – The 7th international armaments and military hardware expo MILEX 2014 will take place in Minsk on 9-12 July, representatives of the national expo center BelExpo told BelTA.

A Russian delegation led by Vice Premier Dmitry Rogozin is expected to visit the expo, BelTA has been told.

The source noted that the event will be one of the largest defense industry expos in Eastern Europe. MILEX has become a venue for meetings of representatives of foreign high-level military delegations, weaponry experts and specialists. This year’s expo is expected to welcome about 30 official delegations from 23 countries. Minsk will welcome defense ministers of various countries and their deputies, heads of ministries in charge of defense industries, major state corporations and other dignitaries. Military attaches of over 40 countries accredited in Belarus are expected to get familiar with the expo.

Upon invitations of heads of Belarusian defense industry enterprises the expo will welcome delegations of foreign defense companies, with which Belarusian enterprises are establishing or maintain ties for the sake of scientific, technical, or manufacturing cooperation, added the source in BelExpo. Meetings and negotiations between the Chairman of the State Defense Industries Committee and the Belarusian Defense Minister with leaders of foreign countries to discuss military and military technical cooperation are expected to be held during the forum.

The source added that while MILEX is a highly specialized event, it will also demonstrate the intellectual power and the huge potential of the defense sector of the Belarusian economy. The exposition also plays the role of an important marketing instrument. It encourages manufacturing and creates a favorable investment climate. The effectiveness of such forums is also determined by the volume of contracts. MILEX has always demonstrated outstanding performance in this regard. A number of important contracts, agreements and memorandums on matters of armament and military technical property are supposed to be signed as a result of this year’s forum, said the organizers.

This year’s MILEX will take place in Minsk Arena, one of Europe’s largest sport facilities. The new premises have considerably improved the capability of the organizers. Even before the expo is opened, one can assume new records will be set. The expo will occupy about 5,000m2 indoors and 8,000m2 outdoors. As many as 140 participants are expected to take part in the expo. In other words, the figures registered in 2011 will be exceeded by nearly two times. In particular, manufacturers from Italy and China will demonstrate their capabilities. The latter will be represented by the international aerospace trade company Long March.

This year’s celebration of the 70th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders will play its part. Visitors will be able to appreciate a collection of military hardware dating back to the Great Patriotic War and after that. In particular, the collection will feature the trucks GAZ-AA, GAZ-67, BM-13 Katyusha, the tanks T-34-85, T-44, IS-2, IS-3, BT-7, self-propelled artillery weapons Su-100 and ISU-152 and other vehicles. Many of the exhibits were used for the army parade on 3 July.

A magnificent show will take place as part of the opening ceremony. Personnel of the honor guard company, singers, dancers, and musicians of the Belarusian army will take part in it. Representatives of special operations forces will demonstrate capabilities of personal combat hardware systems.

The expo has been organized by the State Defense Industries Committee, the Belarusian Defense Ministry, and the national expo center BelExpo.
