Progress in negotiations on Belarus’ accession to WTO discussed in Switzerland

MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – Progress in negotiations on Belarus’ accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) was discussed as a delegation of the Belarusian parliament led by Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko visited Switzerland, the press service of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament told BelTA.

Vladimir Andreichenko held a number of meetings, including a meeting with State Secretary of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch. The sides exchanged opinions about progress in bilateral negotiations on Belarus’ accession to the WTO, about the possibility of Belarus participating in the Swiss import support program SIPPO. The sides also talked about the most promising spheres, avenues, and instruments for advancing mutually beneficial trade and economic relations, about top-priority steps for improving the legal base Belarus-Switzerland cooperation relies on.

Vladimir Andreichenko told Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch about the work being done in Belarus to improve its business climate, including at the legislative level, about important projects, in which Swiss companies may be willing to participate. Broader use of the already available experience of successfully operating companies with a share of Swiss capital in Belarus was suggested.

The sides agreed that sessions of the Belarusian-Swiss trade and economic cooperation committee would be held regularly. The next session is scheduled for H1 2018.
