Anatoly Kalinin said: “We are now working on a state program to develop the satellite towns. We are going to polish and adopt the document within three months. It will be a step-by-step development strategy.”
Alexander Lukashenko underlined that there will be no space to build residential houses in Minsk with time. According to the President, it would be a good idea to build homes now in the territories vacated by industrial enterprises in order to avoid overpopulation in certain locations inside the capital city. “But we are going to run out of these territories in the end. New homes will have to be built in the satellite towns. It is necessary to build in the vacant territories while trying to preserve Minsk’s original look and enhancing it like a diamond.”
The President was told that there are plans to hand over more than 2,000ha of territories around the towns of Rudensk, Druzhny, and Svisloch to the Minsk city administration, which in turn will make detailed plans and develop Rudensk into a city where 80,000 people will live by 2030. At present Rudensk has a population of 17,000 people. The available energy installations will be used to set up manufacturing infrastructure. Three companies with 1,500 jobs are working already to develop the territory in the town.
There are plans to hand over 42ha in Smolevichi to the Minsk Oblast administration and the Minsk city administration for the sake of real estate development. Apart from that, the motorway from the Glory Mound to Smolevichi will be broadened. The Minsk Oblast administration and the Minsk city administration will also share the responsibility of developing the town of Logoisk.
No major real estate development plans have been made with regard to Zaslavl so far. Minsk Oblast Governor Semyon Shapiro explained that it is necessary to invest heavily in the engineering infrastructure first. Real estate development plans for Fanipol and Dzerzhinsk envisage individual construction projects that will be implemented by demolishing decrepit buildings and by relocating industrial enterprises.
