Priorities in Belarus government action program till 2020 sketched out

MINSK, 2 October (BelTA) – A draft program of action of the Belarusian government for the period till 2020 was discussed at a session of the Council of Ministers’ Presidium chaired by Prime Minister Sergei Rumas, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Rumas remarked that all sections of the draft program had been discussed in detail with deputy prime ministers the previous week. The document’s ability to live up to the goals, tasks, and priorities of the five-year social and economic development program is a matter of principle.

Sergei Rumas stressed: “As per instructions of the head of state in the specified period the government will have to focus on raising living standards of the nation. Improving the effectiveness and the competitive ability of the public sector of the economy is the key aspect of accomplishing this task.”

According to the head of government, to make it happen, it is necessary to build an effective system to manage Belarusian companies.

Sergei Rumas pointed out that digital transformation, the development of small and medium business, and the development of the sphere of services are the most important components in the work meant to bolster the competitive ability of the national economy. In his words, these matters are reflected by the draft action program.

As a result of the session Sergei Rumas gave instructions to polish the document taking into account results of the discussion and forward the document to the parliament by 19 October.
